Engine Testing at CB Tuning

The new 2007 Honda CBR600RR engine has completed the first phase of dynamometer testing at CB Tuning with the aim of configuring a basic map which focuses on fuel economy, and setting up an acceptable idle speed for the engine in order to keep fuel usage and engine temperature down during idle.
A week was spent at the facility setting up the test rig and creating the new engine’s first map for the Motec M800 ECU.
The first power curve gained from the new engine showed a maximum power value of 78bhp. However, the team hope to increase this value with improvements to the intake and fuel system being implemented, and the recently confirmed involvement of Ilmor Engineering who will be assisting the team during the next phase of testing.

SES Approved

The design for this year’s car will feature a competition first, a cast Aluminium rear frame, this design was inspired by high performance Motorcycle designs which feature this technology.
The design was carried out by undergraduate masters students on the Automotive Engineering course, resulting in a design that is 22% lighter but just as strong. The design has various advantages in terms of assembly and servicing which we hope to employ in testing and the events.
The team have worked hard to make sure that this unique design met the requirements of the new Structural Equivalence Spread sheet (SES) mandated by the rules this year.
With the SES approved effort will now focus on working with our various partners and sponsors to get these designs cast and machined in time for the events.
