The 2019 car, LFS19, built upon the major design changes that had been made during the previous season. Sticking with the 10” wheels, the team focused on improving the overall drivability of the vehicle by developing the driver controls, as well as making changes to the aerodynamics package and integration of the electronics.
Our first event of the season was Formula Student UK at Silverstone, where the car put in a very strong performance. It finished 5th in Skidpad, 21st in Acceleration, 13th in Autocross and 4th in Endurance. Initially, the team finished in 9th place, however after the points were recalculated the team was informed that we had actually finished 4th, our highest finishing position ever. During the Endurance event we also won the ‘Top Individual Driver’ award again for one of the drivers.

After the UK event had concluded, the team set off to Formula Student Austria and we were looking forward to taking part at the Red Bull Ring after such a successful result in Silverstone. During scrutineering, a small fuel leak was found during the tilt test, delaying the team. The team managed to solve this issue overnight, completing scrutineering and still managing to take part in both acceleration and skidpad all in one morning. Overall, the team managed to compete in all dynamic events, finishing 20th out of 34 teams as well as being top UK team.

This year, sponsorship and internal funding enabled the team to carry out two weeks of testing before events. During this testing, we managed to cover just over 300km, the most ever by the team. This additional testing not only helped improve the vehicles reliability, but also allowed the team to focus on performance testing, making setup changes at the track.
