Introducing LFS25
Presenting the 2025 LUMotorsport competitor - LFS25. LFS25 presented many engineering challenges and firsts for LUMotorsport engineers over the 2024/25 design period.

The design and manufacture of a carbon monocoque enabled the next stage of innovation and team learning, providing an exciting prospect for development of the chassis. In partnership with the chassis, powertrains packaging was purposefully designed around an electric-first architecture, with a newly developed accumulator to support this.

An innovative approach to the aerodynamic package aimed at improving efficiency and car performance through the reduction of drag and sustained downforce.

The Story of LFS25
Building Towards LFS25: Engineering and Strategy
As with all LUMotorsport projects, LFS25 remained completely designed by students. Support provided by sponsors remained a powerful addition to the team's engineers learning and advancement throughout development.

With LFS24 becoming operational but stymied by electrical hurdles, the team dismantled and salvaged components to make room for LFS25. The latest car saw chassis redesign for aerodynamics and ergonomics, improved battery reliability, and developed cooling strategies alongside new simulation capabilities.

LFS25: Student-led Engineering at Its Peak
In July 2025, LUMotorsport unveiled LFS25, the culmination of several years of learning, innovation, and teamwork. The latest edition of LUMotorsport cars boasted several advancements:
-
CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer) monocoque chassis—the team's first ever—bringing structural stiffness and lightweight performance.
-
A brand-new accumulator (battery pack) designed for performance and efficiency.
-
A simplified electrical architecture, improving power delivery and reliability.
-
A refined aerodynamic package, making the car sharper and more competitive package.
-

As LFS25 team leader Hannah Eastlake highlighted throughout the year, to finally develop a running car capable of performing reliably on track with the team's own EV powertrain provided the greatest engineering feat for LFS25.

Why LFS25 Matters
LFS25 isn't just another car—it's the embodiment of LUMotorsport’s evolution and passion for motorsport:
-
From combustion engines to full EVs.
-
Learning from the trials and tribulations of earlier builds.
-
Boldly integrating advanced materials like CFRP at the student level.
-
Successfully balancing technical, financial, safety, and business demands—all while juggling full-time studies.
-
Developing the next generation of engineers.
Thank You for Supporting & Believing in LUM
LUMotorsport and the 2024/25 team would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved to make LFS25 possible. Without your support in the project and the belief in Loughborough University student engineers, LUMotorsport would not be the successful team it is!

A big thank you to sponsors for the ongoing and unwavering support you show to encourage the Formula Student team here at Loughborough University.

The experiences, learning but most importantly, the everlasting passion gained for engineering and motorsport could not be fulfilled without everyone's support. The team cannot wait to get started on LFS26!

Thank you!
